It is a dedicated USB flash drive that allows you to reset your local Windows account password if you forget it.
Reset your local Windows account password using a flash drive
Forgetting the password to your local Windows account can be a significant issue, potentially locking you out of your files and private information on your device. However, if you've activated the password reset feature using a Password Reset Disk, you can easily resolve the problem without needing to reinstall the Windows system.
When you activate this feature, a file named userkey.psw is created and added to your designated flash drive for the relevant local user account. You can transfer this file to another flash drive if desired, but there should only be one userkey.psw file on each flash drive. Using this file, you can reset your password to regain access to your account.
Create a local Windows account password reset disk
You can create a password reset disk for your Windows account using the following steps:
First, ensure you are logged in using your local account, as this step is not available for Microsoft accounts linked to Windows. After that, connect the flash drive you intend to use for resetting the password if forgotten. Note that the flash drive will not be formatted, and you can use it to store data without issues for other purposes.
Once the flash drive is connected, follow these steps:
1. Open Control Panel from the Start menu.
2. Click on "User Accounts" to display options for managing user accounts.
3. Click on "Create a password reset disk" available on the side panel.

You can also open the Run window (which opens by pressing Win + R together) and enter the following command
rundll32.exe keymgr.dll,PRShowSaveWizardExW
Press Enter to display the Forgotten Password Wizard window directly.
4. A welcome screen will appear for the forgotten password wizard tool click on the Next button.
5. You will be asked to select the flash drive that you are supposed to use to recover the password connected to the computer, select it from the list designated for that and then press the Next button.
6. Then you will be asked to type the password currently used for your account, type the password in the Current user account password field and then press the Next button.
Once you have finished storing the userkey.psw file on the flash drive, wait until the process is complete, then press the Next button and then Finish.
After that, open the flash drive and find the userkey.psw file among the files stored on it. You can now use this flash drive to recover your password at any time.
If you encounter an issue during the login process or forget your password, you will see an option 'Reset password'
Upon clicking it and connecting your flash drive, you will see the option 'Use a password reset disk instead'
Click on it to open a new window containing three text fields.You can use these fields to set a new password and confirm it, along with entering a hint to help you remember the password in the future. Once done, click Next and you will be able to log in using the new password without any issues.
