Windows isn't the real name for the most widely used computer operating system. We are talking about an operating system with a long history and many years of evolution, and as with most technology, it had to overcome initial challenges. Windows 1.0 started as the first version in 1985, and since then, it has continued to evolve despite the initial problems it faced. This project was part of the development of the old MS-DOS system, which was familiar to many.
It is known that Bill Gates, one of the company's founders and main advocates for the operating system, played a significant role in the success of Windows. Initially, it wasn't the idea to name this project "Windows," but choosing this name was one of the main reasons behind its success. It should also be noted that work on Windows 1.0 began in 1981, although the final release was in 1985.
In the early stages of Windows development, the original name proposed by Bill Gates and his team was "Interface Manager." There wasn't a specific explanation for this choice, especially since the system was considered a development of the old MS-DOS system but with a graphical interface.
However, someone outside the technology world, Roland Hanson, the vice president of marketing at Neutrogena, strongly objected to this name. He suggested to developers to use the name "Windows" instead of "Interface Manager." Despite his efforts, his proposal was not accepted by the developers.
Hanson decided to personally speak with Bill Gates to change his mind. After strenuous efforts, the use of the name "Windows" for the system was approved.
While it may seem strange today to install an operating system named "Interface Manager," changing the name to "Windows" had a significant impact on the system's future development. Although we may not know the exact reason behind those decisions, they are an important part of the history of the famous operating system.
