Apple has made file and media sharing easier through the AirDrop service in the iOS 17 operating system. They introduced a new feature called "Proximity sharing" to AirDrop, which facilitates sharing various files among nearby Apple devices with great ease.

In previous versions of the iOS operating system, transferring a file or image between Apple devices involved opening the relevant file, tapping the "Share" button, selecting AirDrop, and then choosing the nearby device to send the file to.
However, in iOS 17, Apple retains this process for sharing between different Apple devices. But if you want to transfer files between iPhones, you can streamline some of the sharing steps using the new Proximity sharing feature.
Here's how to use this feature on iPhones running iOS 17:
How to send files using the Proximity Sharing feature in AirDrop on iPhone devices
To start the process of transferring a file or photo from a specific iPhone to another iPhone, select the photo or file you want to share with someone, then bring the two iPhones closer together and a sharing interface will appear on your phone screen.
From there, tap the share button to send the photo or file to the phone next to your phone, and the collection process will be done in the other device automatically.
You'll notice that sharing files in this way works even if you turn off AirDrop file reception or limit sharing settings to contacts, so it provides a way to share a file with someone without having to change AirDrop settings.
How to Enable or Disable Proximity Sharing:
The Proximity Sharing feature is automatically enabled after updating your operating system to iOS 17. If you want to disable it, follow these steps:
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Select General.
3. Choose AirDrop.
4. Disable the "Bringing Devices Together" option.
If you wish to enable this feature again, follow the same steps and enable the "Bringing Devices Together" option.
It's important to be aware that turning off this setting will also stop the sharing of contacts via the new NameDrop feature.
