The Google Chrome browser has a built-in password management tool called (Password Manager), which makes it easy for you to log in to many websites without having to type in the password every time you log in to a specific site.
But if Chrome doesn't save your passwords, there are multiple reasons why the password manager crashes, including: settings for saving passwords, others related to extensions installed in the browser, and others.
If you're facing the problem of not being able to save passwords in Google Chrome, you can try the following methods to fix the problem:
1- Update Google Chrome browser:
The first way you can try to solve the problem of not saving passwords in the browser, is to check that the Google Chrome browser is up to date to the latest version. Although most browsers, including Chrome, update automatically, it's a good idea to make sure it's up to date before you start trying other ways to fix the problem, and to do so, follow these steps:
- Click the three-dot menu button, and then click Option.
- Click on the (About Google Chrome) option.
- Chrome will automatically scan to see if your browser is up to date. If it is up to date, a message (Chrome is up to date) will appear next to the current version icon. If the version is outdated, the Update Google Chrome button will appear, click on it and then click the (Relaunch) button.
2- Make sure that the password saving feature is enabled:
If Chrome does not display the option to save password, make sure that the Offer to save passwords feature is enabled, by following these steps:
- Click the three-dot menu button, then select Settings.
- Click the Autofill option, and then click the Password Manager option.
- Make sure that the (Offer to save passwords) option is enabled.
After activating this feature, Google Chrome will suggest saving passwords when you log into any website.
To activate this feature in the Google Chrome app on your phone, follow these steps:
- Open the Google Chrome app on your phone Tap the three-dot menu button, then select Settings.
- Click on the Password Manager option, and make sure that the Save passwords option is activated.
3- Check the password settings for specific websites:
Even after you turn on Offer to save passwords, a suggestion to save passwords may not appear on certain websites. In this case, you may have disabled the feature for some websites previously. To be sure, follow these steps:
- Click the three-dot menu button, then go to Settings.
- Click on the (Autofill) option, then choose (Password Manager).
- Scroll down to the Never Saved option, from where you can see the list of websites where you have disabled the option to save password.
- Check if the website whose password you want to save is in the list. If present, click the (X) next to it to remove it from the list.
To check the password settings for specific websites in your phone's Google Chrome app, follow these steps:
- Click the three-dot menu button, then go to Settings.
- Click on the Password Manager option, then click on the Never Saved option.
- Find and select the website you're having problems, and then click the recycle bin icon at the top.
If you haven't allowed Google Chrome to store cookies and site data, you won't keep passwords after you close all Chrome windows. Therefore, you must make sure that the feature (delete cookies and site data when all windows are closed) is disabled, and you can do this by following these steps:
- Click the three-dot menu button and then go to Settings.
- Click on the Privacy and Security option, then choose Cookies and other site data.
- Scroll down to Clear cookies and site data when you close all windows If this option is on, deactivate it by toggling the button next to it.
5- Clear browsing data:
Clearing browsing data, cache, and cookies can help solve the problem of not saving passwords in the Google Chrome browser. To clear your browsing data and cache, follow these steps:
- Click the three-dot menu button and then go to Settings.
- Click on the (Privacy and Security) option, then choose (Clear browsing data).
- Select (All Time) from the menu next to Time Range.
- Turn on Browsing History, Cookies and other site data, and Cached Images and files.
- Click the Clear data button to empty the cache and clear the cookies.
To clear your phone's Google Chrome browsing data and cache, follow these steps:
- Open the Chrome app, then click the three-dot menu button.
- Go to Settings.
- Click on the (Privacy and Security) option, then choose (Clear browsing data).
- Then, you can clear the data the same way you did in the desktop version.
6- Sign back in to your Google account or try another account:
Another way to solve the problem of not saving passwords in the Google Chrome browser is to log out of your account and log in again. To sign out of your Google account, go to Settings and click on the Sign Out option shown at the bottom.
If the problem persists, you can try logging in with a different Google account or create a new one. To do this, click on your account picture shown in the upper right corner, click the Add button, and then choose Sign In. Then you can either create a new account or log in to a pre-existing account.
7. Try disabling extensions:
Some extensions installed in the Google Chrome browser can cause some problems. If you're having problems saving passwords in Chrome, disable all extensions, and restart your browser. If that helps fix the problem, you can start by activating the extensions one by one and check which extension is causing the problem. After identifying the problematic extension, remove it, and Chrome will then be able to save the passwords.
