How to fix the problem of WhatsApp notifications not appearing on your phone

Notifications are an essential part of our electronic devices, as they draw our attention to important messages and alerts. Therefore, not receiving notifications from some applications such as WhatsApp can lead to missing out on important and urgent messages at times.

Not receiving WhatsApp notifications is a common issue that you may encounter in the application, while all its other features are working correctly. You may either not hear the notification sound or your phone may not display the notification preview.

How to fix WhatsApp notifications not appearing in your phone

1- Restart your phone:

When you encounter a problem in your phone or in any application of the applications; the first step you should take is to turn off your phone for at least 30 seconds, then turn it on again. Although this step is simple, it may lead to resolving minor issues. You can do the same thing with the WhatsApp application to solve the problem of not receiving notifications.

2- Free up storage space on your phone:

If you don't have any free storage space on your phone, you won't receive notifications from most apps, including the popular messaging app, WhatsApp, especially if you receive multimedia files such as photos and audio recordings, which require space on your phone to open.

If your phone runs out of storage space, you will receive a notification; however, if you want to manually check the available storage space, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to "Settings" on your phone.
  2. Tap on "Storage." A list of everything taking up space on your phone will appear, and you will find that videos and photos take up the most space. Therefore, delete some of them.

Make sure to delete old and large video files to free up storage space. You can also uninstall apps that you haven't used in a long time. Once there is enough storage space on your phone, app notifications will appear on your phone.

3-Check the WhatsApp notification settings:

Your phone's operating system allows you to disable notifications for any app that you find annoying, and it's possible that you may have accidentally disabled WhatsApp notifications. If you're receiving notifications from all other apps except WhatsApp, you can follow the steps below to check:

Note: The following steps may vary depending on your phone model.

  1. Go to "Settings" on your phone.
  2. Tap on "App Management".
  3. Tap on "App List", then select the WhatsApp application from the list.
  4. Tap on "Manage Notifications", and here you can control the type of WhatsApp notifications you want to receive on your phone.

4-Make sure the option for restricting background data is not enabled:

All phones have a set of settings that allow you to track the usage of cellular network data, including a setting called "Background Data Restriction" which is typically used to reduce data consumption. When this setting is enabled in the WhatsApp application, it prevents the application from using data while running in the background, which means you may not receive WhatsApp notifications.

To disable the "Background Data" option in the WhatsApp application, you can follow these steps:
  1. Long press on the WhatsApp application icon.
  2. Tap on "App info".
  3. Tap on "Data Usage", and make sure that "Background Data" is not enabled.

5-Log out of WhatsApp Web:

If you are using WhatsApp Web on your computer or desktop application, it may result in all notifications appearing directly on your computer instead of the phone app. To fix this issue, log out of WhatsApp Web using the following steps:
  1. Go to the WhatsApp application on your phone.
  2. Tap on the three-dot icon in the upper-right corner, then tap on "Linked devices".
  3. Tap on each linked device one by one, then tap on "Log Out".

6-Disable power-saving mode if it is enabled:

We usually use the power saving mode in our phones to extend battery life, as it automatically restricts the work of applications in the background, but affects the work of applications, including WhatsApp, so if you have a problem with WhatsApp notifications, turn off power saving mode.
